What is the difference between an audiologist and a hearing aid specialist/dispenser?

An Audiologist has had years of post graduate education and clinical fellowships in order to provide complete diagnostic hearing healthcare. Your Audiologist is interested in improving your communications and not just selling hearing aids. The Hearing Aid specialist/dispenser is typically a sales person. They are usually not medically trained in diseases of the ear or rehabilitation of hearing loss. In most states they simply obtain a hearing aid dispensing license, provide a basic hearing test and sell hearing aids. Some states even limit the age of patients and types of testing that dispensers can provide.

Will my insurance pay for my Hearing Aids?

Maybe… Sound Audiology works directly with many insurance companies. Check with our staff to determine your coverage. Typically insurance companies do not provide coverage for hearing aid expenses. We can help you determine what payment options best fit your budget. Checks and credit cards are accepted along with the option of financing through this office.

Some places will test my hearing for free, will you?

YES! However, please consider the following information about hearing evaluations:

Hearing aid dealers/dispensers will typically do a basic hearing test for “free” in order to try to sell hearing aids. At Sound Audiology and Hearing Aid Center we provide a complete audiological diagnostic evaluation. Typically Audiologists charge for these professional services, much like your eye doctor or physician would. However, Sound Audiology is currently providing complementary diagnostic hearing evaluations.

Why are hearing aids so expensive?

Hearing aids are miniaturized computer chips that are personalized for every person’s hearing loss and communication needs. The miniaturization of the chips and the research that goes into development of the advanced technology is very costly
